I have been photographing babies, newborns, and mammas-to-be for eight years now, but last year I completely changed my style to be more natural, light and airy. I used to do unnatural poses with newborns naked on the beanbag, in a prop, or in parents hands. My studio room was in the basement, and the only light was the studio flash, so there was no natural light and it was really dark. I produced many images that I loved, but the whole set-up seemed very uninviting and unnatural to me.
I knew that I loved natural light images that were bright and airy with beautiful neutral colors that never went out of style. So when my daughter was old enough, we moved her room downstairs and moved my studio room upstairs where there is a window with natural light. We painted the room a beautiful light gray color, put in white trim, replaced the carpet with light colored flooring and created a new beautiful studio room where I can photograph in the style that I love.
Now my sessions and images have a true life-style like feel–baby safe and secure in mama’s arms or snuggled and kissed by a proud big brother–so no posed baby in unnatural positions or with loud distracting elements or props that can take away from the natural beauty of a brand new life.
The above clothing is provided by the studio wardrobe, with a selection of beautiful dresses in soft, neutral, organic tones. Also included are clothing choices for baby and siblings, as well as shirts for men.
